SignVideo wins a Barclays Supplier Award
On Thursday 14th April, SignVideo was awarded the Citizenship Initiative of the Year at the global Barclays Supplier Awards.
The Citizenship Initiative of the Year is a specific supplier-led initiative delivered in 2015 that has helped banking become more inclusive, reflecting the diversity of the communities in which Barclays operates or has had a positive social or environmental impact.
This is a hugely commendable win, as the judging criteria is very strict with the solution needing to demonstrate social value as well as a commercial advantage for Barclays and the supplier.
Here’s a quote from a Barclays staff member which shows how the service empowers both the hearing and deaf person:
Using the iPad I was able to use the SignVideo app to communicate with the customer. This truly had such an impact on the customer as he was able to speak to me in depth about where he grew up and how he wanted to personalise his card with a picture of the house he was born in. For the first time I was able to really engage with this particular customer in conversation through the brilliant interpreter Helen. The customer left having had his card personalised and feeling more confident with his online banking. All round this was one of the best experiences I have had in my work life as I truly felt I made a positive impact on my customer.
Here’s a TV advert where you can see how the award-winning service works:
SignVideo provides British Sign Language (BSL) video interpreting services to enable communication between the community of over 150,000 deaf BSL users in the UK and hearing people. The service allows users to make and receive BSL interpreted video calls so that they can effectively and effortlessly communicate with each other. This happens through a professional video interpreter who relays the call between BSL and English and the service is available instantly on tablets, smartphones, computers and laptops via apps and software.
Born in 2004, SignVideo is led by Jeff McWhinney, a well-known deaf entrepreneur who fights tirelessly for equality of the deaf and hearing community. Today, SignVideo, a predominantly deaf-led organisation, provides their service to the government, NHS, councils, UK banks, telecommunications providers, helplines and many other types of organisations.
