SignVideo launches in Welwyn Hatfield
People in Welwyn Hatfield who are Deaf or hard of hearing can now access council services in British Sign Language (BSL).
The council has partnered with SignVideo to provide the free video service, which connects people to a professional BSL interpreter within minutes using a PC, laptop, tablet or smart phone.
The online video interpreting service is secure and easy to use and residents can also access an interpreter via a live video link from the council offices at Campus East.
Simone Russell, Corporate Director at WHBC, said:
We are always looking for new ways to make our services as accessible as possible for all our communities. SignVideo will make it much easier for people who are Deaf and hard of hearing to access council services.
Sam Voisin, from Welwyn Hatfield Deaf Club, said:
This is a positive initiative from Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and will definitely help improve access to services.
Jeff McWhinney, Chairman and Founder of SignVideo and a BSL user himself said:
It’s fantastic to have another council on board with SignVideo. Welwyn Hatfield has engaged us to ensure that their BSL using residents have access to their customer services on an equal basis as for their hearing customers. This will really improve the BSL resident’s council experiences.
